Our land, our cultural identity, our heritage all this came to a risk at some point, with the developing projects coming to Lamu, including LAPSSET not forgetting the proposed multibillion project, coal power plant, but through cooperation, resilience and perseverance of hard work in the fight to preserve environment, Save Lamu organized a festival That brought together the Lamu community to commemorate the International Coastal Cleanup day through Donkey race, dhow race and mazingira cup tournament competitions.
The forward ever, backwards never saying has kept the Lamu community strong, spearheaded by Save Lamu who has been doing a lot of sensitization and advocacy training to the Lamu Community to educate them on the negative impacts of the fossil fuel project in reference to the South Africa and India Exchange visits to witness how coal plant operates on those areas and how it has costed the life of common citizens from environmental destruction’s from the sea, land and air pollution as well.
Save Lamu also had a radio talk show on one of the most popular local radio stations in the Island Radio Lamu FM, to commemorate the day which included Save Lamu board member Mohamed Athman, Somo Mohamed Somo, Lamu BMU network chairman and Gabriel Ngige from the Municipality of Lamu County.
