On Tuesday 24 January, 2012 Save Lamu and its partners in Lamu are planning a press conference to announce our strategy and plans for legal and mass action to suspend the proposed Lamu port until community consultations, land reforms, and an environmental impact assessment is carried out. Save Lamu will share a press statement and details of the announcement at 9:00 a.m. in the Wanaharakati Office Board room, located at the town square in Lamu. Immediately after the press conference, we will be holding a public rally to be addressed by local community leaders and representatives.
Journalists who cannot be physically present can listen to the proceedings by reserving to obtain a call-in number. Please note that appointments for calling in must be made in advance as slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. There are, however, no arrangements to ask questions over the telephone. Interpretation in English and Swahili will be provided on request.
Please contact Hadija at 0722-859-594 or admin@savelamu.org to RSVP and make call-in reservations by Monday 23 January, 2012. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss any of the agenda items, please feel free to call.
We hope you are able to attend.
Sincerely,
Abubakar El-Amoudy
