COVID-19

OUR RESPONSE

Impactful Knowledge

Save Lamu commissioned handwashing stations across 7 towns within Lamu as a rapid response to the novel COVID-19 pandemic. We worked with the county government to share information about the virus with the community and educate them on how to practice social distancing, staying at home and how to wash our hands.

This information will help flatten the curve within Kenya and protect Lamu residents from contracting or transmitting this virus. We call upon all Kenyans to work together to stop the spread.

Collaborative Output

Save Lamu in collaboration with Lamu Youth Alliance launched a program which brought together a number of tailors within Lamu County to saw over 10,000 facemasks and distribute to residents free of charge in a bid to help reduce the spread of the deadly COVID-19.

We identified priority areas which include local markets and hospitals. This intervention came as a solution to the gaps identified within the community. Truly when people come together great things happen.

Meeting Community Needs

Save Lamu is running a food distribution exercise in response to families affected by Covid-19. We have been able to reach over 100 households in distributing food items to vulnerable women and children highly affected by this pandemic.

As in other parts of the world, the community is not able to find income-generating opportunities due to restrictions in goods and services movement. Lamu residents, however, have proved to be resilient and are working with each other to help the government reduce and ultimately have the country declared Corona Virus free. We are appealing to everyone to reach out and help those in need. #STAYHOME #STAYSAFE
