By May 1, 2021 April 22nd, 2022 24 Comments

Four years of port construction has disrupted the fishermen’s ability to practice their livelihoods, the 2018 rulling awarded fishermen with sh1.76 billion compensation to at least 4734 fishermen affirming their rights to their marine resources affected by Lamu port.

Lamu Port is now nearing operationalization, with the government intending to launch the port on 15 June 2021, which will magnify the environmental impacts on the Lamu ecosystem and further disrupt farmers and fishermen.

Communities call on government and Kenya Ports Authority to swiftly compensate the fishermen, implement the ruling, and resolve the appeal.
