Different programs were launched to help curb the situation including Sewing and distribution of Facemasks, where women took part to make everything possible, installing of water tanks and not forgetting food, which is one of the important basic need in our day to day lives, Save Lamu distributed food items to area residents amidst this pandemic where many families are living below the poverty line.

“ Through Save Lamu, I have learned a lot, they have taught us so many things to keep us safe from corona like washing hands with soap on running water, sanitizing our hands, maintaining social distancing, and today they have provided us with food items, I extend my gratitude,” said Khadija Galgalo a resident from Lamu.

Since the first case of covid-19 was reported in Kenya on March 2020 , the number of people infected has been going high, with Lamu reporting several  cases of COVID-19 which led to a number of Counties to be on locked down following presidential order, the economy has since dropped because no business is taking place among the Counties.

Lamu as a County depends so much on fishing activity as one of the ways of generating income within the locality and outside Lamu, but with the inter county lock down and curfew in some parts of the Country, businesses have deteriorated bringing almost everything to a standstill.

“ With the little, we have received from Save Lamu during this trying times of corona, we appreciate, little can go a long way, let us not also forget to encourage one another to maintain proper hygiene on regular basis,” remarked Ummi Mzee a resident from Lamu during the food distribution exercise.
